Luciana Matalon Foundation The Museum of Milan is proud to present from 13 January to 26 February 2011 the exhibition: The legacy of the stain. Engravings of the paintings of Giovanni Fattori Giovanni Malesci curated by Roberto Ungaro, under the auspices of the Department of Culture of the Lombardy Region, Province and City Councils. During the exhibition, the Foundation has awarded a medal by the President of the Republic, in recognition of efforts in the promotion of contemporary art. Through well over a hundred works, including etchings, lithographs, drawings and paintings, as well as interesting videos, photos, catalogs and books, is paying homage to the painting of inspiration macchiaiola of the two Tuscan painters and their artistic testimony to the period and the wars of the Risorgimento to the First World War to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy. Giovanni Fattori, the Risorgimento and the painter of views of the Maremma, considered together with Silvestro Lega and Signorini Telemachus of the greatest exponents of the movement of Macchiaioli, will be remembered not only with some of his finest etchings, but also with unpublished documents that tell the story. An exhibition of niche for the chosen few factors which makes a more careful and acute observer of the soul of their time, enriched by a study of his works that bear witness and luster to the 150 Unity of Italy.
Alongside works by Giovanni Fattori, as if to demonstrate a kind of parable with perfect artistic inspiration of the painter from Livorno, we find the work of John Malesci, his favorite pupil and one of the most important artists of the Great War. works Malesci essentially revolve around three subjects: the animals, as in the famous painting of "lying Ox" inevitable protagonists in the nineteenth century Tuscan painting, landscapes, and particularly loved by Malesci that best highlight the lines along which he developed his style as in the painting "Antignano" portraits, Malesci that, following factors had to be a document of truth. The exhibition also provides a comparison of the teacher and pupil, with pictures and maps that tell the lives and military experiences. The whole exhibition is accompanied by a number of panels that help the visitor in the discovery of two very special artists, joined by their passion for the real and profound and sincere friendship.
